We started this week learning about NEEDS and WANTS. A need is something you must have to survive/live and a want is a thing you really would like but not necessarily need to survive. The children brainstormed some ideas. Some pictures are on both depending on how the child supported their reasoning. We talked about how clothes can be on both, as well as family, shoes, etc.
After some activities with needs and wants. I introduced the Pigeon series by Mo Williams. We discussed speech bubbles and how the Pigeon sometimes says he needs something when he really just WANTS it. THE KIDDOS LOVED THESE BOOKS!
During writing workshop we have been learning about adding detail doesn't mean to scribble on top of our sketches. How Kindergarteners need to color in the lines using different but appropriate colors. The children worked on a dictated drawing of Pigeon. They did awesome with coloring in the lines and taking their time.
Today, we ended with making Pigeon and writing down a need and want.
In math I introduced Math Word Problems. I want students to learn to organize their drawing and we ALWAYS, ALWAYS have to put a unit. Next week we will start with adding an equation to it.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!
